rings. swollen fingers. and tight red marks linger and throb. blood hobbles around in my veins. i find it a shame that this scene’s just a game that the jacks and the jills just try to make names for themselves something lusty, dripping with musk, something soon to be dusty and spotted with rust. well the present’s for selling and the past is for dwelling and the future’s like fire, first the smoke starts a-swelling… i got swollen fingers that play on some strings bound up with rings that all signify things and the greatest of recompense in all of this diffidence drains from my hands as it swells in my brain please tell the new mothers don’t stifle your children. don’t smother their dreams, make them trifles, like i would. i step on their feelings sometimes so that i can feel good about what i gave up for nothing… and it takes love to do that! it takes love away from you it takes love, trusts it to your hand, and lets you take it for granted. i got swollen fingers that play on some strings bound up with rings that all signify things and the greatest of recompense in all of this diffidence drains from my hands as it swells in my brain

i don’t need to do anything to please you since you’re not here all the work I’d had to do before now has just disappeared and I don’t know why I’m crying now that I have all this free time why can’t I think of something better than of you? why you don’t know the meaning of the word “no” is beyond me you go about making messes of your friendships and when you make a new friend, you get them to clean all of your friends are players in the plot of your life, who if you cannot face you’ll simply have replaced the critics disappear, loud humming’s all you hear, why must you block me out? what do you have to fear? that as a friend, you are not faithful, and how you brag is just disgraceful think you should go cause I don’t need you, and cause it costs too much to feed you? i thought you’d help me grow, share the things you know, but you never showed me much i was eager then, thought that we were friends, and it seems that you were touched and if you were an idol housed in flesh and bone i would have known from how you acted in my home you always took my warmth for granted you didn’t tend the seeds you’d planted when we were young, you never noticed but now you’re old enough to know this now you are old enough to know this: that as a friend, you are not faithful and how you brag is just distasteful think you should go cause I don’t need you and cause it costs too much to feed you.

faces change, you know, i can vouch tight skin sags and straight backs slouch i’m like moss growing on my couch i don’t know what’s happened to me you were fit once, just like a god a sweet young child in a grown up’s bod maintenance started to be a chore please, sit down, your body implored i belong in florida i’m tired of my place and I hear the further south you are the sun has stronger rays you spent months trying to divine your fate if it all weren’t right, you would hesitate had the chance just passed? were you years too late? thought you’d preserve if you went to sleep take some pills so you wouldn’t wake locked in lichens, you couldn’t leap so you stepped back down, and shut your drapes. i belong in florida i’m tired of my place and I hear the further south you are you get much longer days without bodies, voices came to invade your ears, even on the street they’d offer help when you were in pain, play harps, and lay flowers at your feet. all the old folks putter south like birds on crutches humbled while they once fed children from their mouths the world they’ve built has crumbled faces change, you know, i can vouch tight skin sags and straight backs slouch i’m like moss growing on my couch i don’t know what’s happened to me

She was darning with tears, I was trimming with lace All the years one could trace on the lines of her face And now an old maid, not the girl with blonde braids She was once, before her true love went away The hours ticked by with two hands as their guide Pointing cardinal directions, at each hour a bird cried But although he was sly, perched atop his own sky The spiders above spun their webs for the flies He said that he felt feelings distance can’t melt He promised to return with gold rings and fur pelts But when he passed the warm threshold of her door The cold took his heart, and he loved her no more Ça fait plus de dix ans et ses larmes restent profondes Elle se réveille en se rappellant qu’elle n’a pas d’enfants Mais si elle était enceinte cette journée là Elle en aurait eu un, qui aurait été moi Elle me tiendrait, skelette et tendons, Mais le reveil dans son coeur ne faisait jamais de son.

well i’m singing you now just a little young tune my soul swinging soundly by the slip in full moon and i’m basking in the light my mask comes off at night i re-met you, lover, sometime in late june i’d hoped before then that love would greet me soon but my faith back then was low till i saw that your eyes had that glow i knew watching listening made your heart beat i felt i was sweeping you off of your feet you leaning on that arch with one hand on your beer and your eyes touching mine with the colors so clear all that you asked was i take off my mask so i could stop keeping myself from your grasp i’m screaming this song and i hope you will hear well i must owe you something since i hold you so dear i first sang this tune through a cascade of tears cause i knew it was time for me to disappear

He was gone with no warning He was gone without a word He was gone in the morning He was early as a bird. He came back to bed at midnight And I asked him where he’d been But I couldn’t find the lamplight And his face I’d never seen Was he lovely? Was he too young? Was he ugly as a sin? Doesn’t he know I don’t care As long as I can be with him? My sisters told me he was a monster And I had no words to defend I must believe that he’s a good man But I have never met his friends. If I could just take up off his blanket I could see him in his skin I don’t mean it as a prank But I must know more about him… Is he a cutthroat? Or a philanderer? Is he ashamed to show his face? Shouldn’t I wonder at who he is then, The man I take in my embrace? I hid an oil lamp at my bedside And waited for him to get back When we made love still swathed in shadow Well he left marks upon my neck His voice was calming as a creekbed His hands were softer than a breeze I’d put my fingers in his curls That gathered like the tops of trees When he fell asleep beside me I felt I’d settle all my doubts But looking on him brought a flood To what before had been a drought He was gone with no warning He was gone without a word.

You mustn’t worry, I will find you! You mustn’t worry, I will find you. Well you’re hiding from a wicked world where debt collectors prowl When you’re hoping for redemption, and returning to us all I will find you. Cause without you, the world seems black and white… You’re like a prism that shines with colored light When you went to war, I felt deserted and I thought I’d waste away I asked the gods to bring you, but they didn’t listen to me when I prayed I sacrificed bulls and grains, hoping that they’d be appeased But I must find you myself, for the gods cannot be pleased. You mustn’t worry, I will find you! You mustn’t worry, I will find you. When you’re standing in the front lines with the bodies falling ’round When you just want to retreat and place your feet on hallowed ground I will find you. And when you’re wandering in the desert and there’s nothing there but stones When you spot a flock of vultures, and beneath them piles of bones I will find you. You’re castle’s full of suitors, who behave like looters, and like birds of prey Because you’re not here they woo your wife, drink your beer, and eat at your buffet I don’t believe I should grieve, though they tell me that you’re dead I will not let another man entice me into bed But if you’re taken as a lover in another woman’s hands If you miss me and you can’t stay there despite all her demands I will find you And if your soul is lost in battle and goes to Elysian Fields If there’s many men between us bearing armor, spears and shields I will find you Cause without you, the world seems black and white… You’re like a prism that shines with colored light I will find you!

i worship no one but the Radiant Sun which stirs me from Bed, helps me get some things done it places its Kiss on me and leaves a Mark but i’d rather have that than be left in the Dark i know the Moon is your Lover it seems reflects thoughts just of you while it sits there and dreams casting your Likeness in a Perfect Sphere for a second, i almost thought that You were here Radiant Sun Radiant Sun what will we do when your Shining is done? all i can say is that you’ve made me love all of those Heavenly Bodies above and if i ever end up just like Marie Curie well i’ll never blame you for what happens to me and if you’ll be tried for your Radiant Years i don’t know where they’ll find a Jury of your Peers Radiant Sun Radiant Sun what will we do when your Shining is done? all i can say is that you’ve made me love all of those Heavenly Bodies above
